ISIS-Khorasan, which currently operates active centers in Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa under the umbrella of Pakistan’s military regime, stated in a statement that it has taken responsibility for the assassination of the prominent religious scholar Sheikh Idris of the Akora madrasa.

Meanwhile, analysts believe that Pakistan’s military intelligence agencies are behind the attack and consider ISIS to be merely a symbolic name.

It is worth noting that in recent years, a number of religious scholars in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and across Pakistan have been assassinated in targeted attacks, many of which have been claimed by ISIS.
