Hafiz Zia Ahmad Takal, Director of Public Relations at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, said in a statement that Afghan Foreign Minister Mawlawi Amir Khan Muttaqi met with his Russian counterpart, Sergey Lavrov.

Takal noted that the discussions focused on enhancing political relations, broadening economic cooperation, and exchanging views on key regional issues of shared interest.

Mawlawi Amir Khan Muttaqi welcomed Russia’s decision to recognize the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan, calling it a significant and historic milestone in the development of bilateral relations.

He stressed the importance of joint cooperation in combating narcotics, promoting regional economic initiatives, and developing transportation corridors that enhance regional connectivity.

For his part, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said that Moscow’s recognition of the Islamic Emirate had opened new and unprecedented avenues for political, economic, and international cooperation between the two countries.

Lavrov commended the Afghan government’s efforts in countering drug trafficking, ensuring security, and fostering stability, stressing the importance of making effective use of regional platforms such as the Moscow Format.

He further praised the Islamic Emirate’s achievements and independent stance, describing them as constructive measures that contribute to regional stability and prosperity.
