Reuters has reported that Iraqi security forces arrested several politicians, members of parliament, and senior government officials early on Sunday morning.
Security and judicial sources described the move as the beginning of a wide-ranging anti-corruption campaign ordered by Prime Minister Ali Al-Zaidi.
According to security sources, elite counterterrorism units carried out operations at the residences of politicians and senior officials inside Baghdad’s Green Zone on Sunday, arresting several individuals.
The sources, who spoke on condition of anonymity due to the sensitivity of the matter and because they were not authorized to speak to the media, declined to reveal their identities.
They also did not disclose the identities of the arrested lawmakers and politicians.
