In a statement, the Ministry of Defense announced that Afghan defense forces, during intelligence and security operations conducted over the past month in various border areas of the country, arrested 16 smugglers and confiscated a large shipment of smuggled goods, including narcotics, weapons, ammunition, medical supplies, and dozens of vehicles.
According to the ministry’s statement, the seized items included 18 kilograms of methamphetamine, 2,300 grams of opium, 8 Kalashnikov rifles, 2 Russian PK machine guns, 7 M4 rifles, 12 pistols, 262 rounds of various types of heavy ammunition, 9 cartons of medical supplies and equipment, 6 motorcycles, and 56 vehicles along with vehicle spare parts.
The Ministry of Defense stated that the smugglers intended to illegally transport these items from Afghanistan to foreign countries. However, their attempts were thwarted by the defense forces, and all those arrested have been handed over to the relevant judicial and legal authorities for further legal proceedings.
