The Syrian Human Rights Commission stated that from December 8, 2024, the date that coincided with the rise of Ahmed al-Sharaa’s government to power, through the end of the first quarter of 2026, more than 3 million Syrian citizens returned to their places of origin.
According to a report released by the Commission on the occasion of World Refugee Day, the returnees included more than 1.5 million refugees who came back from host countries, in addition to over 1.8 million internally displaced persons who returned to their original areas.
The Commission added that millions of Syrians are still living as refugees or in conditions of displacement, including more than 9 million Syrians who remain internally displaced within Syria.
