The Deputy Prime Minister’s Office for Economic Affairs said in a statement that Mawlawi Abdul Ghani Baradar Akhund met with United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) Commissioner Barham Salih to discuss the situation of Afghan refugees, humanitarian and development assistance for returnees, and future cooperation.

According to the statement, Mullah Baradar thanked the United Nations and international organizations for their support to Afghan refugees, but stressed that assistance should also be directed toward development projects to help provide returnees and internally displaced families with shelter, education, electricity, clean water, and employment opportunities.

Meanwhile, Barham Salih praised efforts made in Afghanistan’s development sectors and pledged to work toward increasing international support for Afghanistan.
