According to a report by Pakistan’s The Nation newspaper, trade between Afghanistan and Pakistan dropped by 66% from July 2024 to February 2025.

The report states that this decline amounts to $1.489 billion, delivering a significant blow to Pakistan’s economy.

The source links this sharp reduction to Islamabad’s stringent policies, which have negatively impacted transit trade.

Notably, over the past four years, the interim government has shifted its focus from trade with Pakistan to strengthening economic ties with Central Asia and other countries. As a result, Afghanistan is steadily moving toward full economic independence from Pakistan.
