Anadolu Agency reported that a railway line is being extended from Saudi Arabia to Turkey. The Saudi Ministry of Transport has officially confirmed that joint technical and economic studies on this major project will be completed by the end of this year.
According to the information, the railway will connect Saudi Arabia directly with Turkey through Jordan and Syria, with the main goal of significantly boosting trade between the countries of the region and strengthening the land transport system.
Sources also said that on April 3, Turkey’s Minister of Transport and Infrastructure, Abdulkadir Uraloğlu, stated that Ankara plans, as part of efforts to revive the historic Hejaz Railway, to extend rail lines to the Syrian city of Aleppo.
It is worth noting that the Hejaz Railway is one of the most famous historical infrastructure projects in the region, built between 1900 and 1908 during the Ottoman Caliphate, connecting Damascus with the holy city of Madinah in Saudi Arabia over a distance of approximately 1,322 kilometers.
