Former Russian president Dmitry Medvedev said in recent remarks that the European Union lacks the capacity to confront Russia independently.
Referring to joint nuclear exercises by France and Poland, he said the bloc should not expect the United States to play an active role in any potential conflict with Russia.
He added that Washington is preoccupied with domestic challenges and urged European countries to reassess and strengthen their own defense capabilities.
