Norlan Yermikbayev, Secretary-General of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), said that Afghanistan will be a central focus of the organization’s upcoming consultative meeting.

Yermikbayev noted that Afghanistan is making rapid economic progress, although some issues still require further discussion.

He added that the meeting will also address ways to strengthen security cooperation between member states and the Afghan government. The SCO intends to hold comprehensive discussions on Afghanistan’s current situation and its implications for the region.

The meeting is scheduled to be held on September 11–12.
