Support or Hatred; The Resistance Front’s Position Among the People

In the past few days, Ahmad Massoud has once again spoken out and made statements that are worlds apart from the current reality in Afghanistan. In these remarks, Ahmad Massoud claimed to have the support of the Afghan people, stating that “the will and desire of the Afghan people to fight against the Taliban have increased… messages of cooperation from the people to confront the Taliban reach me more and more every day.”

To understand the truth or falsehood of Masoud’s claim, it is enough to take a brief look at the past; a time when these notorious figures took control of the Afghan nation at various stages and spared no effort in committing oppression and crimes.

Yes! Looking back at the past years, we will find that the people of Afghanistan only supported these individuals wholeheartedly during one period, which was the time of jihad against the Soviet Union; days when no one imagined that some would exploit the name of jihad and struggle against the occupiers and betray the pure bloodshed in the path of the exaltation of the word of Allah and the establishment of the Islamic system.

From that date onward, at no point in Afghanistan’s history did the suffering people of this land support the executioners, warlords, and their followers, and this led to the Afghan people siding with the Taliban movement during the devastating internal wars and overcoming this destructive fire.

In the twenty years of occupation, if these self-proclaimed leaders rode on the shoulders of the people and managed to maintain their oppression and treachery, it was not based on the support of the people, but rather on the force of the foreign occupiers’ weapons; the same occupiers who supported these infamous figures for a while to secure their own interests.

After the fall of the previous regime, a number of opponents, including supporters of the Resistance Front led by Ahmad Massoud and Amrullah Saleh, sounded the trumpet of the second resistance, declared war in hopes of regaining power, and took to the mountains.

But the people, who had just freed themselves from the notorious former rulers and were experiencing nights and days of relative peace, announced their annoyance with the individuals and leaders associated with the resistance, paving the way for their quick defeat and scattering their ranks.

The people’s hatred towards the remnants of the Republic has led to the fact that more than three and a half years have passed since the start of the caretaker government. Despite the Resistance Front’s extensive propaganda through social networks, they still have not been able to gain control over even a small part of Afghanistan. Their weakness and helplessness have become evident to all regional and global powers.

So, if Ahmad Massoud or other opponents of the caretaker government talk about people support today, they should understand that these statements, like their other slogans, are empty, imaginary, and baseless, and have no connection to the current realities in Afghanistan.
