The United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) has recently presented a plan titled “UNAMA’s Comprehensive Approach for Afghanistan” aimed at expanding international engagement with Afghanistan and addressing certain ambiguities and challenges.
Although this plan has many shortcomings and does not adequately address the permanent resolution of Afghanistan’s problems and interaction with the international community, it still seems that this administration is gradually coming to terms with the realities in Afghanistan compared to before. They are now convinced that any effort without accepting the actual realities in Afghanistan is futile and fruitless.
This plan has deeply unsettled the groups, former commanders, and militia leaders based abroad, as they have not been given any role in it, and their false slogans, frantic movements, and anxieties have been disregarded.
Among these groups, one is called the Front for Freedom, which claims it wants to gain power in Afghanistan through force and war. This group, which consists of only a few leaders and supporters, which based in foreign countries and from there, issues grand slogans on social media, calling themselves the future rulers of Afghanistan.
Within this group, they are the generals and corrupt officials of the fallen republic who abandoned the battlefield and fled Afghanistan. They inflicted extensive casualties on civilians in many provinces during the war and have numerous cases of administrative and moral corruption. In any case, if we overlook those past actions, this group has recently harshly criticized UNAMA’s proposal and challenged the presence of UNAMA and the United Nations as a whole.
They have published a lengthy article in this regard, introducing themselves as the true representatives of the Afghan people, chanting many other grand slogans such as democracy, elections, inclusive governance, justice, national unity, struggle, alternative power, power-sharing, and transparency, and challenging UNAMA as to why it has overlooked their so-called important role in this plan.
First of all, if we look at the structure of this front, its leadership is entirely composed of those who were officials during the fallen republic, had American and international support, had tens and even hundreds of thousands of security personnel, had institutions, had dollars, had power, and had influence.
They mocked all these issues despite having all these resources at their disposal. They mocked democracy, they mocked elections, they mocked governance, and they mocked justice. Afghanistan was on the brink of disintegration, and out of extreme fear, they had surrounded themselves and their homes with dozens and hundreds of security personnel and cement walls. Administrative and moral corruption had reached its peak, and they mocked all those false slogans that they are now repeating.
They should be asked why they didn’t implement those values and slogans back then. Has the public forgotten their oppression, betrayal, and crimes? Have they asked anyone in Afghanistan to stand with them again for those ridiculous values? Does anyone allow them to revive their old habits and theatrics? No, absolutely not!
All their cries are of their helplessness. They have already been condemned by the people of Afghanistan, and now the UNAMA and every other international address are also condemning them. UNAMA and the world now understand the situation in Afghanistan, the demands and needs of the Afghan people better than ever. UNAMA and every other international address now recognize the true rulers and owners of Afghanistan well. That is why they have not given them any value, and they will forever be removed from Afghanistan’s political and any other arena, with their names and notorious deeds remaining in history.
Although UNAMA’s plan still has many shortcomings, if they refer to Afghanistan’s existing realities, the Afghan people, the Afghan system, and structure, these shortcomings can be further reduced and a path for comprehensive interaction can be paved.
UNAMA and any other international address should avoid engaging with any such fake address like the Freedom Front and refrain from consulting with them. They should not pay attention to their false slogans and deceptive propaganda and instead refer to the people of Afghanistan, their true address, their system, and their demands. This is the only reliable address for interaction between the international community and Afghanistan.
