Reuters, citing the White House, reports that U.S. President Donald Trump is set to sign an executive order today (Thursday) to shut down the Department of Education.
According to the source, Trump plans to sign the order during a special ceremony alongside Republican governors from Texas, Indiana, Florida, and Ohio.
Trump and his billionaire advisor, Elon Musk, are working to dismantle government programs and agencies such as USAID. Shutting down the Department of Education marks Trump’s first major step in this effort. However, the department cannot be dissolved without congressional approval.
