The Axios news website, citing a U.S. official, reported that White House Special Envoy Steve Witkoff is en route to Switzerland, where the first round of talks between Tehran and Washington is expected to take place regarding a potential agreement on Iran’s nuclear program.
At the same time, Iranian media have reported that Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi is also traveling to Switzerland for the talks.
According to the official, Jared Kushner, who is also President Donald Trump’s son-in-law and envoy, is currently in Switzerland. The talks were originally scheduled to begin yesterday in the Swiss resort of Bürgenstock, but were postponed due to clashes between Israel and Hezbollah in Lebanon.
It remains unclear whether a new date has been set for the negotiations. Meanwhile, Qatar’s Prime Minister, Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, one of the key mediators between the United States and Iran, also arrived in Switzerland on Friday.
U.S. Vice President J.D. Vance was expected to lead the American delegation, but he postponed his trip at the last minute on Thursday night.
