In an exclusive interview with The New York Times, U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken praised the withdrawal of American forces from Afghanistan as a significant achievement of President Biden’s foreign policy.

Blinken emphasized that Washington has learned important lessons from its invasion of Afghanistan.

Blinken accepted that there was no easy way out of the two-decade-long war in Afghanistan, and he made it clear that the U.S. does not apologize for ending its longest war. He highlighted that President Biden has brought an end to the longest war in American history.

Furthermore, Blinken stated that the U.S. no longer has another generation to fight and die in Afghanistan, considering this itself is an achievement. He stated, “We have learned a lot from Afghanistan.”

According to Blinken, the lessons from Afghanistan have helped the U.S. government to act differently in response to crises in Syria, Lebanon, and Israel.
