Rosa Otunbayeva, the UN Secretary-General’s Special Representative and head of UNAMA, praised the Taliban administration’s economic initiatives during a meeting with Afghan Foreign Minister Mawlawi Amir Khan Muttaqi, according to a statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
In a press release, Deputy Spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Hafiz Zia Ahmad, stated that the meeting focused on Afghanistan’s economic growth, the state of humanitarian and developmental aid, and other key issues.
During the discussion, Foreign Minister Muttaqi highlighted the Islamic Emirate’s achievements, particularly in ensuring economic stability. He emphasized that the Afghan economy, which had stabilized, is now on a growth trajectory. Citing the latest World Bank report, Muttaqi noted that Afghanistan’s economic progress this year is a prove to these efforts. The minister also revealed that additional plans aimed at economic development are currently underway. “Once these initiatives are fully implemented, we will witness further progress in economic growth.” Muttaqi added.
UNAMA Chief Otunbayeva acknowledged the progress, pointing out that, for the first time in three years, the volume of developmental aid to Afghanistan has surpassed that of humanitarian assistance. “This is a very positive development and will have a beneficial impact on Afghanistan’s economy,” she said. Otunbayeva also praised the Islamic Emirate’s economic initiatives and vowed to share these achievements in upcoming United Nations sessions.
