Acting head of the United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA), Georgette Gagnon, told a United Nations Security Council meeting that Afghanistan has achieved substantial security and financial stability under the current government.
She said the current government faces no significant armed or political challenge, describing the absence of such opposition as one of its key achievements.
Gagnon stated that Afghanistan’s long-term future is closely linked to the structure of the current government and the country’s internal stability. She added that the government is steadily expanding its control throughout Afghanistan.
During the meeting, representatives of Russia, China, and several other countries underscored the need for continued engagement with Afghanistan.
