U.S. President Donald Trump announced that an agreement has been reached to end the war between the United States and Iran, meanwhile Iranian state television also reported the development. In a post on his Truth Social platform, Trump wrote, “The deal with the Islamic Republic of Iran is now complete. Congratulations to all.”
Meanwhile, Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister Kazem Gharibabadi said the agreement does not reflect trust in the enemy but was drafted amid complete distrust. He said Iran would closely monitor the implementation of U.S. commitments, adding that the enemy had failed to achieve its objectives and that the Islamic Republic of Iran had secured major successes during the war.
Gharibabadi stated that all of Iran’s key terms were placed into the draft agreement. He further said that the U.S. naval blockade against Iran would begin to be lifted from tonight. He added that the immediate and permanent end of war and military operations on various fronts, including in Lebanon, would also take effect tonight.
According to Gharibabadi, the text of the memorandum has been finalized, and the formal signing of the Islamabad Memorandum is scheduled to take place in Switzerland on Friday.
The agreement has been widely welcomed internationally. United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres congratulated both sides on reaching the deal and called it an important step toward a peaceful resolution.
British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, and French President Emmanuel Macron also welcomed the agreement, calling it a diplomatic achievement made possible through the efforts of several countries.
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan said they view the agreement between the United States and Iran as an important step toward strengthening peace and stability in the region and welcomed the development.
Qatar’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs said the agreement on the memorandum represents a significant step toward regional stability and the strengthening of long-term peace. The ministry also praised both sides for their efforts to resolve differences through dialogue.
Following the agreement, Britain, France, Germany, and Italy said they are prepared to lift sanctions imposed on Iran in exchange for assurances that Iran will not acquire nuclear weapons. In a joint statement, the four countries said Iran must never obtain nuclear weapons and that they are prepared to coordinate with the United States, Iran, and the International Atomic Energy Agency to achieve this objective.
