Zalmay Khalilzad, the Afghan-born American former diplomat who has recently intensified his criticism of Pakistan’s government, pointing to the trial of former Prime Minister Imran Khan, posted on his X page, stating, “Today is a sad day for Pakistan.”

The former Prime Minister and leader of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf party was found guilty by a Pakistani court in a corruption case. As a result, he was sentenced to 14 years in prison and fined one million Pakistani rupees.

It is noteworthy that Khalilzad had previously mentioned that Pakistan needs a fresh start, which should begin with the release of Imran Khan.
