Mohammad Suhail Shaheen, the Afghan government’s ambassador in Qatar, met with Dr. Barham Salih, the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), in Doha to discuss the challenges facing Afghan refugees returning from neighboring countries.
According to a statement, the discussions focused on providing returning refugees from Pakistan and Iran with housing, healthcare, and education services, creating employment opportunities, and meeting their basic humanitarian needs.
The two sides also discussed reports that some returning Afghan refugees had their property and assets unlawfully and forcibly confiscated. They stressed that these properties should be returned to their rightful owners.
According to the statement, Dr. Barham Salih said he is aware of the challenges facing returning Afghan refugees and pledged to make the necessary efforts to help address their concerns.
