After extensive and constructive negotiations between the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan and the United States, Khan Mohammad, an Afghan national previously imprisoned in the U.S., has been released and repatriated in exchange for American citizens.

Khan Mohammad, a former Afghan holy fighter (Mujahid), had been sentenced to life imprisonment by U.S. courts and was serving his sentence in California. He was arrested nearly two decades ago in Nangarhar province.

The Islamic Emirate has expressed appreciation for the United States’ actions in this matter and further emphasized the U.S. commitment to constructive and positive engagement.
