Afghan government deputy spokesperson Mullah Hamdullah Fitrat said in a post on X that the leadership of the Afghan government addressed a gathering in Kandahar attended by religious scholars, tribal elders, and officials from the provincial capital and the districts.
According to Mullah Fitrat, the leadership stressed the role of religious scholars in promoting public reform and strengthening the Islamic system alongside providing religious guidance. The leadership said religious scholars have a primary responsibility to safeguard religious values, explain Islamic rulings, and provide proper guidance to the public.
The leadership also called on religious scholars to help reform society, play an active role in preventing immoral practices, support the education and sound upbringing of young people, and promote unity and social cohesion among the public.
The meeting further stressed that religious scholars and officials should carry out their duties with piety, sincerity, and humility while remaining committed to serving and guiding the people.
According to the statement, the meeting concluded with the religious scholars renewing their pledge of allegiance to the leadership and reaffirming their commitment to supporting and strengthening the Islamic system.
