Addressing a scholars’ gathering organized under the banner of Ittehad-ul-Ulema and led by Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam leader Maulana Fazl-ur-Rehman, Maulana Shujauddin delivered a sharp critique of Pakistan’s current government.

He stated, “We will issue a fatwa declaring rebellion and secession against an Islamic government as forbidden (haram), but you tell us; what truly qualifies as an Islamic government?”

Maulana Shujauddin, alluding to the Pakistani military regime, stressed that not every government qualifies as an Islamic government and noted that the matter requires thorough discussion.
