The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) of Afghanistan has announced the signing of a joint cooperation agreement with the Danish Refugee Council (DRC) to enhance collaboration in mine clearance efforts.
According to a press release, the agreement was signed by NDMA Acting Director, Mullah Nooruddin Turabi, and DRC Chairperson, Danya Al-Sharif. The agreement is valued at $1,224,242.
As part of the agreement, DRC will survey and clear 224,400 square meters of land contaminated by mines and unexploded ordnance in Kabul, Parwan, Logar, Maidan Wardak, and Ghazni provinces.
Additionally, DRC will provide mine risk education and public awareness to 12,960 individuals to improve public safety.
This initiative aims to reduce the risks posed by landmines and unexploded ordnance, ultimately improving the safety and livelihoods of communities in the affected areas.
