Swiss’s Controversial Plan; A New Rift among the Opponents of the Caretaker Government

With nearly four years passing since the establishment of the caretaker government, the opponents of this government, most of whom sought refuge in European countries after the collapse of the republican regime, have been unable to unite and come together under a single flag against the caretakergovernment.

During this time, many events have occurred, each in its own way increasing the distance and separation between these notorious figures and pushing them further apart.

A few days ago, on May 4 (Sawr 14), the Swiss newspaper Zürich Neue Zeitung published a report stating that officials from the Swiss Federal Office for Migration proposed in the fall of 2024 that Pashtuns, as the largest ethnic group in Afghanistan and in their view “the least dangerous ethnic group in Taliban-controlled Afghanistan,” should be prioritized for forced repatriation to Afghanistan.

However, this report sparked a new wave of disputes and conflicts among the opponents of the caretaker government, with some opposing the plan and others supporting it under the influence of ethnic biases.

Just a few days later, although this controversial plan was denied by the Afghan embassy and representation in Geneva, it can still be said that the proposal has further fueled the disputes among the opponents of the caretaker government.

In the meantime, individuals like Amrullah Saleh have reacted to the Swiss Immigration Office’s plan to expel Pashto-speaking refugees, and in a statement from the “Green Trend,” they urged Switzerland and other European countries not to equate Pashtuns with the Taliban.

Individuals like Saleh know very well that after the division of the caretaker government’s opponents based on parties and political organizations, if they now separate from each other under the name of ethnicity and lineage, they will no longer have any power to raise their voices against the caretaker government, and their words will not be valued. They will fade into oblivion and join the dustbin of history.

On the other hand, some who welcomed the Swiss Immigration Office’s proposed plan to deport Afghan refugees with a focus on the Pashtun ethnicity and called for its implementation see this plan as an opportunity to reduce the influence of Pashtuns in the opposition parties and groups against the caretaker government.

They see this plan as an opportunity to clear the field of rivals, so that by eliminating Pashtun figures and movements, they can pave the way for unilateral acquisition of political advantages, exploitation of intelligence support, and complete control over resources and foreign aid.

What they did in the twenty years of the Islamic Republic and even during the internal wars; so that for the sake of seizing power, obtaining foreign aid, and consolidating political positions, they fought each other for years and many lives were lost along the way.

In fact, it must be said that these tensions and disagreements among the opponents of the caretaker government, contrary to what some might think, will not come to an end. Instead, with each passing day, the divisions among them will increase.

Without a doubt, not only do the opposition groups lack the ability to effectively confront the caretaker government, but they are also disintegrating and fracturing from within. Any attempt at greater unity will only deepen the divisions, and no cohesion will emerge among them.
