A spokesperson for the United States Department of Defense has confirmed that Navy Secretary John C. Phelan has resigned from his position.
Defense Department spokesperson Sean Parnell wrote on X that Phelan is “immediately departing the Pentagon,” without providing any explanation for the resignation.
He had served in the post for 13 months. According to the report, Deputy War Secretary Hung Chao is expected to be appointed as the next US Secretary of the Navy.
In recent days, several officials in President Donald Trump’s cabinet have stepped down from their positions. Earlier, the US Secretary of Labor also submitted her resignation.
