International media, citing the White House, have reported that U.S. President Donald Trump has raised tariffs on Chinese goods to 104 percent.

According to the reports, the new tariff rate will come into effect on April 9 of the current year.

The move follows China’s refusal to lift the 34 percent tariff it had imposed on U.S. imports.

Earlier, on April 2, President Trump signed an executive order imposing “reciprocal tariffs” on exports from several countries to the United States. In response, China imposed a 34 percent tariff on American goods, prompting the United States to further increase tariffs on Chinese goods.
